Scry Sync for Mac and Windows Beta

Personalized visual search.

Scry Sync builds a visual search out of your own work. Snip anything on your screen with a hotkey and sync any folder of images, from screenshots to Photoshop and Illustrator files. Then find any of it by describing it or with a picture, and share it with the people you pick. Your snips stay private until you do.

macOS 13+ (Apple silicon or Intel) · Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit) · signed installers

Snip / 01Scry Snip

A hotkey for anything on your screen.

Press the hotkey, select part of your screen and check the picture on the review card. It is already on your clipboard. Send puts it in your Scry project, Search sends it and searches Scry with it, and Mark up lets you draw and add notes first.

Control+Option+4

A snip leaves your computer only when you press Send, unless you turn on Send immediately. It is private until you share it, and stops being available 30 days after you send it. Snip works on its own, without a folder.

Sync / 02Folder sync

Sync any folder of images.

Point Scry Sync at any folder of pictures: screenshots, exports, PDFs and design files. PNG, JPG and WebP go up as they are. TIFF and PDF pages, and Photoshop and Illustrator files, are turned into pictures on your own computer first, and only those pictures are sent. Subfolders are included, and your files turn up in the same search as your snips.

1

Sign in with your browser

The app shows a short code and opens a sign-in page. Type the code there and choose the project the pictures go to. No key to copy or paste. New to Scry? Create an account with Google, GitHub or email on the same page.

2

Choose a folder and read the scan

Point it at the folder your exports already go to. Subfolders are included. It scans first and tells you what it found, including what it can't use and why. Nothing is sent until you press Start.

212 pictures found. 180 are ready, 26 will be converted first, 6 can't be used (see why).

Keep working. It keeps up.

It waits until the folder has been quiet for about a minute, so it never sends a half-saved file. Then it converts what changed and sends the folder's pictures only when something is different. Edit a file and its picture is replaced, with links and history kept. Delete a file and its picture leaves Scry. Your file is never touched.

Up to 10,000 pictures1 GiB per folderPause any time

Every file gets a verdict. None disappears silently.

Faithful

The picture is a true copy of the file. Sent, no badge.

Approximate

Sent, with a badge in Scry and a card in the app that says why. The badge stays until you fix the file.

Not sent

It can't make a correct picture. The row says why and how to fix it.

Share / 04Sharing

Share it with the people you pick.

Snips are private until you share them. Open one on the Snips page, choose Share, and pick who sees it. A link shows a preview only, never the original, and you choose how long it lasts: 1, 7 or 30 days. Turn it off at any time.

Everyone who can open the project.
Anyone with the link
No sign-in. A preview only, never the original.

People you share with can't share it onward, and a shared snip turns up in their search too. Pictures from a synced folder go to its project, so everyone who can open the project can find them.

Detail: how Snip works

Your files stay where they are.

Scry Sync only reads your folder and never writes to it. Your original files never leave your computer; only the pictures it makes do.

Detail: what Scry Sync sends and collects

It's a beta, and it says so.

The installers are signed, and the Mac app is notarized. Your computer may still ask you to confirm the first time you open it. Anonymous usage data is on by default, and you can turn it off.

Detail: install and first run

One folder per project, Mac and Windows only.

A project takes pictures from one synced folder. Connect another computer to the same project and the browser warns you first that it will replace that device's pictures. No Linux yet.

Detail: connect a folder

Start with one snip.

Download Scry Sync, sign in with your browser, and press the hotkey. The app asks how you want to use it: Snip only, or Sync a folder too.
